The first words heard on Earl Sweatshirt’s third album Some Rap Songs are “Imprecise words,” spoken by James Baldwin in his 1962 speech, “The Artist’s Struggle for Integrity.” In the speech, he expresses his distaste for labels, such as “artist, integrity, peace-loving and integration” because these words are universally meaningless.
